Flight of the Conchords returning to HBO -- the band, not the show

"Before this rumour gets out of hand - we are not working on a 4 episode Conchords show for HBO," tweeted Jemaine Clement.

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 3 (UPI) -- Flight of the Conchords is returning to HBO.

That is to say, the duo known as Flight of the Conchords, Academy Award-winner Bret McKenzie and frequent talk show guest Jemaine Clement, will be working with the premium cable network to develop a four-part musical comedy -- but that miniseries will not be a revival of their hit show Flight of the Conchords.

"It was supposed to be this year." Clement told the Guardian in an interview that ran Monday.

"But then we decided to put [Clement's directorial debut film] What We Do in the Shadows out ourselves ... We talk about a movie every so often. Sometimes it feels like we lost a lot of impetus over the last couple of years. But Bret, James [Bobin, lead director] and me, we all want to do a musical. It would be good to do something all together... I miss playing Flight of the Conchords gigs."

Clement's comments immediately triggered buzz and false reports that Flight of the Conchords was being revived, rumors the 40-year-old filmmaker quickly extinguished via Twitter.

What We Do in the Shadows screened in America in January at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival.
