NEW YORK, Aug. 29 (UPI) -- Joan Rivers is "resting comfortably" at Mount Sinai hospital in New York.

Daughter Melissa Rivers issued an update on her mother's health Thursday evening. Rivers was rushed to the hospital that morning after she went into cardiac arrest and stopped breathing during a scheduled throat surgery.

"I want to thank everyone for the overwhelming love and support for my mother," Melissa said. "She is resting comfortably and is with our family. We ask that you continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers."

Rivers was in critical condition upon her arrival to the hospital, and has since stabilized. The 81-year-old comedian and television personality is currently in a medically induced coma, and Melissa and other family members are staying at Rivers' apartment on the Upper East Side.
