LOS ANGELES, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- Matt Damon used toilet water to complete the Ice Bucket Challenge on Monday.

The 43-year-old actor collected the water from various toilets in his home to raise awareness about the lack of clean drinking water worldwide, in addition to ALS research. Damon is the co-founder of Water.org, a non-profit that provides clean water and sanitation resources to countries around the globe.

"This is truly toilet water," he confirmed in a video of the challenge. "For those of you like my wife who think this is really disgusting, keep in mind that the water in our toilets in the West is actually cleaner than the water that most people in the developing world have access to."

Damon was nominated by longtime collaborator Ben Affleck and Tonight Show host Jimmy Kimmel, and nominated George Clooney, Bono and Tom Brady in turn. The actor last appeared in The Monuments Men with Clooney earlier this year.
