LOS ANGELES, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Columbus Short was arrested Thursday.

The 31-year-old actor was taken into custody at a Van Nuys courtroom for failing to show up to court in July. Short was on vacation in Barbados instead, and a warrant had been out for his arrest since the missed court date. He skipped another hearing in the case earlier this week, and the judge upped the bail from $40,000 to $500,000.

Short's arrest Thursday morning caused him to miss a different hearing scheduled later that day. The judge issued a second, separate arrest warrant and set bail at $250,000.

The actor has faced a slew of personal and legal problems in the past year, and is being charged for domestic violence and aggravated assault. He starred as Harrison Wright on three seasons of ABC series Scandal, but was let go in April and will not return for season four.
