LONDON, July 31 (UPI) -- Robert Pattinson addressed his ex Kristen Stewart's infamous affair with director Rupert Sanders during an interview for the September issue of Esquire U.K.

The British actor, 28, ended his inconspicuous relationship with his Twilight co-star in May 2013, months after paparazzi photos revealed that she cheated on the actor with her Snow White and The Huntsman director.

"[Expletive] happens, you know?" Pattinson told the magazine with a laugh. "It's just young people... it's normal! And honestly, who gives a [expletive]?"

The actor added that the hardest part of it all, had been "talking about it afterwards."

"Because when you talk about other people, it affects them in ways you can't predict," he explained. "It's like that scene in Doubt [2008, in which Philip Seymour Hoffman plays a priest suspected of inappropriate behaviour], where he's talking about how to take back gossip? They throw all those feathers from a pillow into the sky and you've got to go and collect all the feathers."

But despite the unnecessary attention that his breakup with Stewart received, Pattinson "came out smelling of roses."

Since ending his five-film Twilight run in 2012, Pattinson has been "making movie after independent movie" and has at least five films coming out in both 2014 and 2015.

As for his personal life, the actor has been linked to Elvis' granddaughter Riley Keough and to pop star Katy Perry since ending his relationship to Stewart.
