LOS ANGELES, June 27 (UPI) -- Seth MacFarlane plans to donate up to $1 million to Reading Rainbow.

The 40-year-old Family Guy creator has pledged to match up to $1 million in donations to reboot the classic children's program. Executive producer and host LeVar Burton started a Kickstarter campaign in May to remake Reading Rainbow into a free web series that can be used in the classroom. The goal is to raise $5 million, and the campaign has raised nearly $4.2 million thus far.

"Before you start calling your friends and spreading the word, please help me thank my friend, Seth, for his amazing generosity," Burton writes in an update. "With his help, we can make an even bigger difference for an entire generation of kids."

The Kickstarter campaign comes to a close Wednesday, June 2. $5 million would pay to develop the program and distribute it to 7,500 classrooms, and $6 million would allow Reading Rainbow to reach an additional 5,000 classrooms.
