LOS ANGELES, June 24 (UPI) -- Melissa McCarthy opened up about co-writing her upcoming film Tammy with husband Ben Falcone during a press junket for the upcoming film.

"We really met working together and writing together and it's always been an easy thing that we can do together," the 43-year-old funnywoman said. "And I always want his advice. Like, he's a smart fella and funny!"

Tammy tells the story of a recently fired woman who goes on a road trip with her "hard drinking" grandmother. The film stars McCarthy in the title role and Susan Sarandon as grandma Pearl. At the junket, the Bridesmaids star told reporters the idea for the film came to Falcone in his sleep more than half a decade ago.

"He had a dream -- he literally came down blurry-eyed, hair all over the place, and said, 'I had the weirdest dream and I think I should write it. You go on a road trip with your grandmother. She's an alcoholic and I think she sleeps around,'" she recalled.

"I was like, 'You want coffee first? Do we have to start like, immediately? 'Cause it's really early!' And we had coffee and it was one of those really vivid dreams, and he couldn't get it out of his head, and the more we started talking about it, it just kind of developed and we worked on it for about six years."

McCarthy also discussed her upcoming clothing line at the event, explaining she decided to create it because it's very hard to find plus-sized clothing for women her age.

Tammy will be released in theaters on July 2.
