Frances Bean Cobain tells Lana Del Rey an early death 'isn't something to romanticize'

LOS ANGELES, June 23 (UPI) -- Frances Bean Cobain thinks Lana Del Rey could use some perspective.

The 21-year-old artist took to Twitter on Sunday to admonish the 28-year-old singer for her recent comments about death. Del Rey had listed late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain among her heroes in a June 12 interview with The Guardian, and insisted, "I wish I was dead already." Frances Bean was just shy of two years old when her father Kurt died of an apparent suicide at age 27.

"The death of young musicians isn't something to romanticize," she tweeted at Del Rey. "I'll never know my father because he died young & it becomes a desirable feat because ppl like u think it's 'cool.'"

"Well, it's [expletive]ing not," she asserts. "Embrace life, because u only get one life. The people u mentioned wasted that life.Don't be 1 of those ppl."

After Del Rey's fans came to her defense on Twitter, Frances Bean later tweeted, "I'm not attacking anyone. I have no animosity towards Lana, I was just trying to put things in perspective from personal experience."

Del Rey herself had taken to Twitter last week to slam The Guardian for publishing the quote. The singer called the interview "sinister," and said reporter Tim Jonze's "leading questions about death and persona were calculated." Jonze responded in an essay on Friday to dismiss Del Rey's complaints.
