NEW YORK, June 18 (UPI) -- Are you ready to see Sookie Stackhouse, Bill Compton and Eric Northman sing their hearts out about vampire rights and drug addiction?

Nathan Barr, who composes music for HBO's hit gothic fantasy, True Blood, said he's been working on a musical adaptation of the show, which is already based Charlaine Harris' Southern Vampire Mysteries novels.

"We've got a couple of songs already," Barr told E! News on Wednesday. "The story lends itself to a musical"

HBO told Variety that the network is in "very early discussions" about the project.

Barr said he has the rights to the idea, but hopes HBO will come along for the ride.

"We're pitching it, it's not a guaranteed thing," he added. "I have the rights. HBO doesn't have to like it, but hopefully they will and they'll give us the shot to make it and bring it to Broadway.
