LONDON, June 14 (UPI) -- Angelina Jolie is the next-closest thing to royal -- shy of ditching Brad Pitt and marrying Prince Harry -- after being named an honorary dame by Britain's Queen Elizabeth.

The Maleficent actress received the honor as part of the queen's birthday honors.

She earned the title for her work campaigning against sexual violence and the use of rape in war. Since she's not British, Jolie can't use the title "dame," but instead receives the reward on an honorary basis.

"To receive an honor related to foreign policy means a great deal to me, as it is what I wish to dedicate my working life to. Working on [Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative] and with survivors of rape is an honor in itself. I know that succeeding in our goals will take a lifetime, and I am dedicated to it for all of mine," Jolie said in reaction to the new title.

In addition to Jolie, actor Daniel Day-Lewis is set to receive a knighthood, actress Maggie Smith received the Campanion of Honor and Homeland star Damien Lewis was named an Officer of the Order of the British Empire.
