'Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder' wins the Tony for Best Musical

The show went into Sunday's ceremony with a leading 10 nominations.

NEW YORK, June 9 (UPI) -- The Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder won the Tony Award for Best Musical in New York Sunday night.

The show went into the Broadway competition with a leading 10 nominations. By the end of the night, it had also scooped up the prizes for Best Direction of a Musical, Best Book of a Musical and Best Costumes for a Musical.

"Thank you, Tony voters -- in this room and across the country. You have singled us out from a group of wonderful new musicals this season and, to everyone watching, please go see them all," lead producer Joey Parnes said in his enthusiastic acceptance speech.

Moments earlier, Jessie Mueller won the Best Actress in a Musical Tony for her work in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, while Neil Patrick Harris picked up the Best Actor in a Musical honor for his performance in Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Harris' co-star, Lena Hall, earned the trophy for Best Featured Actress in a Musical and James Monroe Iglehart scored the accolade of Best Featured Actor in a Musical for Aladdin.
