Taylor Swift donates $50k to children's hospital

PHILADELPHIA, June 6 (UPI) -- Taylor Swift has made a $50,000 donation to The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia's Cancer Center at CHOP.

CHOP's CEO Dr. Steven M. Altschuler said that the 24-year-old's donation would be used to create a "high-tech music therapy cart" for teenage cancer patients to crate their own music.

"We are thrilled that Taylor Swift has chosen to support The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia's Cancer Center," Altschuler said. "Her gift will help lift the spirits of many CHOP patients during a difficult time."

Stephanie Rogerwick added that "teenagers who are being treated for cancer have emotional and social needs that are different than their younger counterparts."

The Cancer Center at CHOP has been offering "comprehensive, multidisciplinary program of psychosocial services" for teens and adults since 2010.
