LOS ANGELES, May 27 (UPI) -- Nia Vardalos has written the script for a sequel to her indie film, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, which became the highest-grossing romantic comedy of all time when it premiered in 2002.

The film also garnered Vardalos an Oscar nomination for bestscreen play and inspired a short-lived sitcom on CBS.

"Now that I'm experiencing motherhood, I'm ready to write the next chapter of my family story," Vardalos said in a statement. "Of course a few jaded folks in the press corps will claim I ran out of money or just want to kiss John Corbett again. One of these things is true."

Vardalos will reprise her role as a first-generation Greek-American woman, with John Corbett also returning. There's still no word on Joey Fatone.

Rita Wilson is back as producer, along with husband Tom Hanks and his production company Playtone.

According to Variety, the sequel plot will involve a "family secret" and a "bigger, fatter wedding."
