Octavia Spencer joins 'Insurgent' cast

LOS ANGELES, May 12 (UPI) -- The Divergent sequel has added another Oscar-winning actress to its ensemble.

Octavia Spencer, who won an Academy Award for The Help back in 2011, will join Kate Winslet, Shailene Woodley and Theo James in Insurgent.

Spencer, 43, has been cast as Joanna, the leader of the peace-making faction, Amity. Woodley's character, Tris Prior, seeks refuge on the Amity compound.

Joanna is described in Veronica Roth's book series as having a long scar across her face. She is also blind in one eye.

Insurgent will hit theaters in March 2015.
