Hailee Steinfeld joins 'Pitch Perfect 2' cast

"Pitch Perfect 2" will mark Steinfeld's singing debut.

LOS ANGELES, May 1 (UPI) -- Hailee Steinfeld has joined the cast of Pitch Perfect 2.

The 17-year-old actress will soon make her singing debut in the sequel to Pitch Perfect. The original movie musical was released in 2012, and follows college a cappella group The Barden Bellas.

Actresses Anna Kendrick (Beca Mitchell), Rebel Wilson (Patricia, aka "Fat Amy"), Brittany Snow (Chloe Beale) and Elizabeth Banks (commentator Gail Abernathy-McKadden) will reprise their roles in the new movie. Banks, who also produced the first film, will direct the sequel, and Kay Cannon has returned to write the screenplay.

Steinfeld is slated to appear in several other upcoming movies. She has a role in Tommy Lee Jones-directed The Homesman, and will star in Barely Lethal alongside Jessica Alba.

Pitch Perfect 2 is scheduled for a May 15, 2015 release.
