George Clooney's parents respond to engagement news

LOS ANGELES, April 28 (UPI) -- Both Nick and Nina Clooney are delighted that their son, one of the Hollywood's most famous bachelors, has finally decided to put a ring on it.

"We are very pleased," Clooney's father, Nick, told E! News on Monday. "We like Amal and we are very excited for our family and thrilled for them."

It was reported over the weekend that Clooney had become engaged to British lawyer Amal Alamuddin, news that was later confirmed by Alamuddin's London firm Doughty Street Chambers.

Nina Clooney echoed her husband's sentiments, telling the Daily Mail, "I'm extremely happy, Amal's a lovely girl."
