The Lincoln director will direct an upcoming film adaptation of the Dahl classic The BFG, in which a young girl befriends a kind-hearted giant, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The project will reunite Spielberg with the woman who wrote E.T., Oscar-nominated screenwriter Melissa Mathison.
DreamWorks acquired the rights to the book back in 2011 and a slew of directors have been considered for the project, including Chris Columbus and John Madden.
The book, published in 1982, inspired a 1989 animated TV movie.
