LOS ANGELES, April 23 (UPI) -- Meg Ryan will voice an older version of Greta Gerwig's character in the highly anticipated How I Met Your Mother spinoff.

The How I Met Your Dad pilot, widely expected to receive a series order from CBS, will star indie darling Gerwig as a "a female Peter Pan" who wants to leave her husband of one year.

Like Bob Saget, who never appeared in How I Met Your Mother but provided voiceover for an older version of Josh Radnor's character, Ryan will be the voice of "future Sally" (Gerwig), telling her kids the story of how she met their father.

Ryan played a recurring character on Lisa Kudrow's Showtime series, Web Therapy, but How I Met Your Dad would be her first regular role on a prime-time network show.

CBS' final season of How I Met Your Mother ended last month.
