LOS ANGELES, April 21 (UPI) -- Julia Roberts speaks out about her half-sister's death for the first time in an interview with WSJ Magazine.
Roberts spoke to the mag just one day before the Academy Awards last month -- the 46-year-old actress had been nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in August: Osage County -- and less than a month after her half-sister, Nancy Motes, was found dead of an apparent drug overdose and possible suicide.
"It's just heartbreak," she said. "It's only been 20 days. There aren't words to explain what any of us have been through in these last 20 days."
"It's hour by hour some days, but you just keep looking ahead," she said. "It's hour by hour some days, but you just keep looking ahead. You don't want anything bad to happen to anyone, but there are so many tragic, painful, inexplicable things in the world."
Roberts reportedly had a volatile relationship with Motes, who told the New York Daily News last year that the actress often bullied her as a teenager.
"Do you want to be a fan of someone so cruel? She’s not even that good of an actress. Happy you totally F***ed with me?" Motes tweeted weeks before her death.
Motes, 37, had been working as a production assistant -- a job she acquired through Roberts -- at the time.
"[As with] any situation of challenge and despair, we must find a way, as a family," Roberts continued. "It's so hard to formulate a sentence about it outside the weepy huddle of my family."
