NEW YORK, April 16 (UPI) -- Valerie Harper was all optimism during an interview on Wednesday despite her ongoing struggle with cancer.

The 74-year-old Mary Tyler Moore Show actress was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer in March of last year, and told the Today show on Wednesday that she "was supposed to be gone before last Easter."

"When you say 'supposed to be,' the doctors just give their best guesstimate," Harper says. "What I have is incurable and terminal, but guess what? Not today."

"I'm doing very well," the positive star relays. "The treatment that my doctors at Cedars-Sinai have me on is working and I'm doing acupuncture and herbal tea."

The actress maintains her fighting spirit and brings "spirit, body and mind together" to channel her energies away from the disease. Harper has stayed busy despite her diagnosis, and will guest star in two upcoming episodes of new series Signed, Sealed, Delivered.

"Whenever I go, that's when I'm supposed to go, like all of us," the actress says. "But live the moment."

Harper told Closer magazine in an interview published on Wednesday that recent tests revealed that she is "absolutely cancer free." The actress clarified that she and her doctor do not refer to her cancer as being in "remission."

Signed, Sealed, Delivered debuts April 20 on the Hallmark channel.
