LOS ANGELES, April 14 (UPI) -- Selena Gomez's mom Mandy Teefey found out the singer wanted to replace her as a manager at the same time everyone else did -- when TMZ wrote a story about it.

Teefey reportedly told the celebrity gossip site that she sat down with Gomez on Thursday, a day after the story was published, and asked her if that was truly what she wanted. The "Come And Get It" singer reportedly said it was.

According to Teefey, the idea that Gomez would be replace her and her stepfather, Brian Teefey, with a more "seasoned" manager came up in conversation last month, but it was "just talk." Gomez, however, didn't see it that way.

Teefey said that even though she's "having a hard time processing" the situation, she respects her daughter's decision and still plans to finish several projects she had pending with Gomez, including the upcoming film, The Sky is Everywhere.

Last week TMZ reported that Gomez fired her parents and wanted someone more experienced to take over her career.
