Mickey Rooney's family ends burial dispute

LOS ANGELES, April 11 (UPI) -- Mickey Rooney's estranged wife, Jan Chamberlin, and his conservator, Michael Augustine, have reached an agreement on the actor's burial site.

The Hollywood icon died Sunday at age 93, and legal action quickly escalated after family members disagreed over where he should be buried.

Chamberlin had attempted to move the actor's body to Westlake Village Cemetery, where the two had purchased plots during a happier time in their marriage. Augustine wanted to fulfill the actor's wishes and bury him away from his wife, whom he had separated from in 2012. Rooney's stepson and daughter-in-law lent their support to the conservator.

The parties agreed Thursday that Rooney will be buried at Hollywood Forever Cemetery during a private family ceremony.

"Mickey had enough lawsuits in his life for 10 people," Augustine said. "The last thing he needs is one over where he'll be buried."

"After thinking about it and praying about it, [Chamberlin] decided, for the sake of [Rooney's] fans and peers, that [Hollywood Forever] was befitting of him as a Hollywood figure," Chamberlin lawyer Yevgeny Belous added.
