LOS ANGELES, April 10 (UPI) -- Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock, stars in a new clip from his upcoming movie, Hercules.

The preview debuted on Wednesday night as part of MTV's "takeover" week in anticipation of the 2014 MTV Movie Awards on Sunday. Johnson stars as the title character in the new film, which is based on the demigod Hercules.

Greek myth relates that Hercules was the son of Zeus and the mortal Alcmene. His divine heritage lent him superhuman strength that he used to complete his punishment, the Twelve Labours. The tasks took Hercules all across the world and required him to kill or capture several mythological beasts, including the Nemean Lion, the Lernaean Hydra and the Cretan Bull.

The new clip shows Hercules at the head of his army as they walk into a trap set by their enemies.

"Look at me ... do I look afraid?" the demigod asks before he charges into battle.

Hercules debuts in theaters on July 25.
