SEATTLE, April 9 (UPI) -- Sir Mix-a-Lot will perform with the Seattle Symphony for their classical music rendition of "Baby Got Back."
The symphony has developed a new composition based on Sir Mix-a-Lot's work for their series, "Sonic Evolution." The series is part of their New Music WORKS initiative that fosters collaboration and engagement in music.
London-based composer and DJ Gabriel Prokofiev wrote the Sir Mix-a-Lot piece for the symphony. He is the grandson of famed Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev, and founded the record label Nonclassical in 2003.
"[Sir Mix-a-Lot] is a 90s rapper, he's quite humorous and a fun guy," Prokofiev tells The Quietus. "I'm orchestrating two of his most famous hits, and he's actually going to rap on stage with the orchestra."
"He's got this rap persona but in reality he's the softest," the composer continues. "He's only interested in mixing. His most famous hit is 'Baby Got Back.'"
Ludovic Morlot will conduct Prokofiev's Sir Mix-a-Lot work. The piece will debut on June 6 at the Seattle Symphony's home at Benaroya Hall in Seattle.
