NEW YORK, April 8 (UPI) -- Kirsten Dunst opened up about gender roles and what makes relationships work during an interview for the May issue of Harper's Bazaar UK.

"I feel like the feminine has been a little undervalued," the Marie Antoinette star told the magazine. "We all have to get our own jobs and make our own money, but staying at home, nurturing, being the mother, cooking -- it’s a valuable thing my mom created."

"And sometimes, you need your knight in shining armour," she continued. "I’m sorry. You need a man to be a man and a woman to be a woman. That’s how relationships work."

Dunst's conservative views on gender roles have caused quite the stir on the Internet as not everyone agrees with her traditional perspective on men and women.

“Kirsten Dunst is not paid to write gender theory so it shouldn't surprise anyone that she's kind of dumb about it,” Jezebel's Erin Gloria Ryan wrote.

Uproxx writer Stacey Ritzen said that Dunst "continued to be somewhat of an insufferable person, as evidenced" by her Bazaar interview, adding that according to the actress' viewpoint her marriage was "doomed to fail."

"I don’t have kids and write dick jokes for a living and my husband is more of a cat person than a dog person. THANKS, KIRSTEN DUNST," Ritzen wrote.
