LOS ANGELES, April 8 (UPI) -- 2 Chainz pleaded not guilty to drug possession on Tuesday.

The 36-year-old rapper, born Tauheed Epps, appeared at a Los Angeles court Tuesday morning for his arraignment. The appearance was extremely brief, and Epps left the courtroom after he pleaded not guilty to the charge brought against him.

Epps was arrested in June 2013 at LAX after police found marijuana on the rapper's person as he attempted to board his plane. The amount was less than an ounce, but the rapper was booked on felony narcotics possession after law enforcement allegedly subsequently found codeine, a sedative found in "sizzurp," in his checked luggage.

The rapper faces up to three years in prison if convicted.
