LOS ANGELES, April 4 (UPI) -- Johnny Knoxville will provide the voice for Leonardo in the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie.

The 43-year-old Jackass star will provide the voice for the half-shell leader to accompany Pete Ploszek's physical portrayal of the character. Ploszek performed Leonardo's movements for the movie, and turtle effects were later added with CGI.

Tony Shalhoub (Monk) has also signed on to the film, and will voice the character Splinter. Splinter is a mutant rat who raises and names the four turtles, Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo, and trains them in the martial art ninjutsu. Seinfeld actor Danny Woodburn provided the physical performance for the character.

An insider tells Deadline that two-part performances were always a possibility. Apparently the actors were only guaranteed a physical performance in costume.

Megan Fox will star as human reporter April O'Neil in the film. In addition, Jeremy Howard, Alan Ritchson, Noel Fisher and William Fichtner will appear as Donatello, Raphael, Michelangelo and Shredder, respectively.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles debuts in theaters on August 8.
