LONDON, April 4 (UPI) -- Hugh Jackman says he thinks Channing Tatum would make a good replacement as Wolverine.

The 45-year-old actor has previously said it is inevitable that someone will eventually replace him as the X-Men character. When asked about the issue during an X-Men: Days of Future Past press conference, Jackman suggested Tatum.

"I don't know who could play him," Jackman says. "Channing Tatum could probably play him."

"[20th Century Fox] won't retire [Wolverine], I can tell you that right now," the actor asserts. "One hundred percent."

Jackman has appeared as Wolverine in six Marvel films, but told Vanity Fair in December that he is unsure about future movies. The second Wolverine-specific film, The Wolverine, came out in July of last year.

"I am enjoying [Wolverine] more than ever... [but] I don't know whether or not I will do this next movie," Jackman said. "I am really proud of [The Wolverine] and I am excited to develop something with Jim Mangold... but I have a very high expectation of what [a third film] would need to be and if it doesn't reach those, I won't be doing it."

"Jim Mangold and I were literally on the phone last night talking about ideas," the actor continued. "But there is no script and no writer yet so it's a way off."

Jackman will appear as the character in the upcoming film, X-Men: Days of Future Past. The movie debuts in theaters May 23. The actor is currently filming Chappie, set for release in 2015.
