Michael Strahan announced on Wednesday that he will join Good Morning America as a co-host.

The former New York Giants football star announced the news on his show, Live! With Kelly and Michael. Strahan currently co-hosts Live! with Kelly Ripa, and will continue his duties there in addition to Good Morning America.

"The big news is that I'm gonna be on GMA now," Strahan confirmed to Ripa this morning. The host said he will begin with semi-regular appearances on the other morning show.

"I don't think I could do it every day," Strahan elaborated. "I have a lot going on. I have to be smart about it."

The host reassured Ripa that he loves her and Live!, and said their show will remain his number one priority.

"I would never do anything to jeopardize the quality of what I do here," Strahan promised. "This is what I do. This is me. This is my home, no matter what."

Good Morning America news anchor Josh Elliott recently decided to leave the show for a new job at NBC sports. A source recently told The NY Daily News that the addition of Strahan is unrelated to Elliott's departure.
