British R&B singer Sam Smith had a gospel choir, full band and string section back him up in Saturday's performance on Saturday Night Live.

The crooner's first set was "Stay With Me" from his upcoming debut LP, Lonely Hour. The album is set to be released May 26, Rolling Stone reported.

His second performance, "Lay Me Down," was a little more stripped bare, with just his vocals backed by a piano and cello.
