March 31 (UPI) -- Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen continue to delight fans with their friendship in a series of photos posted on Twitter.

The best friends are fawned over as Captain Picard and Gandalf by their respective legions of fans, and combine forces for the X-Men movies as Professor Xavier (Stewart) and Magneto (McKellen). The two recently performed together in a Broadway production of Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot that ended on Sunday.

Stewart took to Twitter to post a series of photos of himself with McKellen as the pair explored New York in the days leading up to the play finale. The two friends posed with a poster of Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton, perched upon public bikes, and stood at the rear of what appears to be Wall Street's Charging Bull. The actor ended the photo series with a picture of their silhouettes in a farewell to the play.

Stewart and McKellen will next appear together on film in X-Men: Days of Future Past on May 23. See even more photos of the legendary pair on Stewart's Twitter account here.
