Mindy Kaling talks fashion and speaks out about her weight in her interview for Vogue's April issue.

The issue has gotten a lot of press because of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's cover, but Kaling has a statement of her own to make in her magazine article.

"I don't want to be skinny," Kaling declares. "There's a whole list of things I would probably change about myself ... [but] I never need to be skinny. I'm constantly in a state of self-improvement, but I don't beat myself up about it."

Much has been made over the actress' figure, a fact the star acknowledges but finds annoying in light of her actual achievements.

"It's really tempting to not take chances," Kaling says of the public scrutiny. "But I don't want to be fearful [with fashion choices]. I don't want my tombstone to say, 'She hid her imperfections well on the red carpet.'"

"When I'm at my thinnest, I tend to wear things that don't show off my body," the actress elaborates. "But when I'm bigger, I'll go body-con, which comes from a place of 'This is my perimeter, in case you were wondering if I was actually much bigger.'"

Marni and Miu Miu are some of Kaling's favorite designers. For big nights out, she chooses pieces from Roland Mouret, Antonio Berardi, and David Meister.

"I love when your clothes can help project that you're witty," the actress says. "You know, when your outfit does some of the work for you."

Kaling is a six-time Emmy nominee, and currently stars in her own show, The Mindy Project. The series is currently on break in its second season, and will return to TV on April 1.
