March 24 (UPI) -- The Breakfast Club detention would have taken place thirty years ago on Monday, March 24.

The iconic 1985 film was directed by John Hughes and starred "Brat Pack" actors Emilio Estevez as "athlete" Andy Clark, Anthony Michael Hall as "brain" Brian Johnson, Judd Nelson as "criminal" John Bender, Molly Ringwald as "princess" Claire Standish and Ally Sheedy as "basket case" Allison Reynolds.

The story follows the five teenagers from different cliques as they face the villainous Principal Vernon (Paul Gleason) and learn to accept themselves and one another during a Saturday spent in detention.

The Breakfast Club is considered a quintessential 80s movie and is ranked number one among Entertainment Weekly's "50 Best High School Movies." The film was one of Hughes' many successful works during the 1980s and 1990s. He also directed such films as National Lampoon's Vacation, Sixteen Candles, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and Home Alone.
