March 18 (UPI) -- Star Wars: Episode VII starts production at Pinewood Studios in London this May, according to a new release from Disney and Lucas Film.

The release marks the first time Star Wars filmmakers have released any new information about the plot of Episode VII, with Star Trek director J.J. Abrams at the helm.

Episode VII will take place 30 years after 1983's Return of the Jedi, which starred Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford.

Walt Disney CEO Bob Iger said the new film will feature "some very familiar faces along with a trio of new young leads."

R2-D2 is the only character confirmed for the sequel, though Fisher, Hamill and Ford have been tellingly coy about reprising their iconic characters.

The so-called trio of new young leads could include Girls star Adam Driver, who is reportedly up for the role of Episode VII's villain. Lupita Nyong'o supposedly met with Abrams about a part, as did Friday Night Lights actor Jesse Plemons.
