James Brown biopic 'Get On Up' releases first trailer

Actor Chadwick Boseman of "42" fame will bring James Brown to life.

Universal Pictures promises music, dancing and drama in the first trailer for upcoming James Brown biopic Get On Up.

Chadwick Boseman will bring the star to life as the film follows Brown from his impoverished childhood to funk-music fame as The Godfather of Soul. Boseman has appeared in several television series, including CSI: NY and Castle, and recently starred as Jackie Robinson in the 2013 movie 42.

Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer and Dan Aykroyd will also star in the film, with Tate Taylor in the director's seat. Taylor appeared in 2010's Winter's Bone, and directed the 2011 movie adaptation of The Help. The film was nominated for Best Picture at the 2012 Academy Awards.

Get On Up will debut in theaters on August 1. The trailer proclaims, "What you have heard is only the beginning."
