Mick Jagger and Martin Scorcese recruit Olivia Wilde for 1970s HBO show

Olivia Wilde will star as a lead character in an upcoming music-focused HBO drama.

Mick Jagger and Martin Scorsese recruited the Her and Tron: Legacy actress for the currently untitled show. The network has yet to green-light the project, but work will soon commence on the series pilot.

The series will be set in New York City during the late 1970s. Actor Bobby Cannavale (Blue Jasmine, Boardwalk Empire) will play a struggling record executive in search of new talent just as punk and disco music begin to take form. Cannavale's character, Richie Finestra, will be faced with a life-altering decision, and must navigate his personal life in addition to the drug- and sex-fueled music industry.

Wilde will play Cannavale's wife, Devon Finestra, a former actress and model. The decision Richie faces triggers a midlife crisis for the character, and the strain causes Devon to return to the bohemian lifestyle she led in the 60s.

The upcoming series is a concept created by Martin Scorcese and Mick Jagger. Scorcese will direct the show, and Terence Winter (The Wolf of Wall Street, The Sopranos) and Breaking Bad producer George Mastras will write.

Wilde will also appear in and produce the upcoming thriller film, Meadowland. The actress will star as a mom who embarks on a dangerous path in search of acceptance from a neglected boy after her own son disappears.
