WASHINGTON, March 10 (UPI) -- After months of rumors about Sharyl Attkisson's frosty relationship with her colleagues, the longtime CBS News corespondent announced her resignation Monday.

“It’s been one of life’s great privileges to work at CBS News, and I’m sincerely grateful for the many opportunities I’ve had," the veteran reporter said in a statement.

“CBS News veteran Sharyl Attkisson is leaving the news division to pursue other endeavors. We appreciate her many contributions and we wish her well,” the network added.

But Attkisson's departure isn't entirely unexpected. The Washington Post's Erik Wemple reported last year that Attkisson had expressed frustration that many of her pieces on Benghazi -- an issue widely investigated by conservative news outlets -- didn't make the cut at CBS Evening News.

Politico said Monday that Attkisson decided to resign over "what she saw as the network's liberal bias."

Attkisson has a book due out this year, titled Stonewalled: One Reporter's Fight for Truth in Obama's Washington.
