DUBLIN, Ireland, March 7 (UPI) -- Michael Fassbender stars as a pop star on the verge of a comedic breakdown in the trailer for his new movie Frank.
The 36-year-old actor plays the eponymous character in the upcoming film, which will also star Maggie Gyllenhaal (The Dark Knight), Domhnall Gleeson (Bill Weasly in the Harry Potter films), and Scoot McNairy (Argo). The film is a musical comedy and follows a pop band, led by character Frank, that gets to play at SXSW in Austin.
The role will be a digression for Fassbender, who is known for his serious roles in 12 Years a Slave and The Counselor. The actor wears a large papier-mâché head, similar to deadmau5's mouse mask, for what appears to be the entirety of the film.
Frank made its premiere in January at the Sundance Film Festival and will debut in US theaters later this year. The May 9 date the trailer refers to is the movie's UK release date.
Fassbender will star in several other upcoming films, including X-Men: Days of Future Past, Macbeth, and Prometheus 2.
