Lil Boosie freed from prison

Rapper's 12-year drug sentence was cut short by several years.

March 6 (UPI) -- Rapper Lil Boosie caught a break Wednesday and was released was from a Louisiana prison several years early.

The 31-year-old, whose real name is Torrence Hatch, was initially imprisoned in 2009 on a marijuana charge, but even more time was added to his sentence after he was caught trying to smuggle drugs into Louisiana's Angola State Penitentiary.

His initial four-year sentence was extended by eight years, but Boosie got lucky and was released on parole.

Atlantic Records, the rapper's label, arranged a news conference for Monday at the W Hotel in New Orleans.

"He will absolutely be there," an Atlantic Records representative said. "He'll be speaking to the press for the first time, after his release."

Lil Boosie will be on parole until 2018.
