LOS ANGELES, March 3 (UPI) -- With all the Oscars' excitement over Ellen DeGeneres' record-breaking selfie and Lupita Nyong'o's touching speech, you might have missed the chilly awkwardness between 12 Years a Slave's Oscar-winner screenwriter, John Ridley, and director Steve McQueen.
Ridley walked right past McQueen when he went onstage to accept his award and never mentioned the director in his speech. You could chalk it up to forgetfulness or nerves, but the camera also happened to capture McQueen's tepid clap.
McQueen -- who was so happy he jumped when he picked up the award for Best Picture -- thanked everyone in his Oscars speech except Ridley.
Then blogger Nikki Finke came up with an explanation:
My sources attributing John Ridley-Steve McQueen cold shoulder at Oscars tonight to dispute over screenplay credit.— Nikki Finke (@NikkiFinke) March 3, 2014
Hopefully, their Oscars will ease the tension.
