HOLLYWOOD, Feb. 27 (UPI) -- In an unprecedented move, ABC will live stream this year's Academy Awards both online and via its mobile Watch ABC app.

The decision to live stream is thought to reflect the changing ways that viewers watch TV and access other media. ABC's mobile Watch ABC app has offered live stream and on-demand content since May of last year.

Viewers who choose to stream this year's pre-show and ceremony will still need to have a TV subscription in order to access the feed.

The 86th Academy Awards will air this Sunday, March 2 at 7PM Eastern Time on ABC, Oscar.com, ABC.com, WatchABC.com, and the ABC Watch app.

The broadcast will be uploaded to the app after the ceremony ends, and will be available to watch on-demand until March 5th. Both the live stream and the on-demand video will include the Jimmy Kimmel Live: After the Oscars special.

For those without a television subscription, the ceremony's performances, acceptance speeches, red carpet highlights, and other memorable moments will be available as embeddable videos moments after they air on ABC.
