LOS ANGELES, Feb. 26 (UPI) -- The Hollywood Reporter says Sony will continue work on Ghostbusters III, despite Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II writer and actor Harold Ramis' death on Monday.

Ghostbusters III director Ivan Reitman is set to meet with Sony representatives in the coming days to determine how the project will move forward. At a minimum, the script, written by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky of The Office, will need to be restructured.

Many fans have taken to Twitter to express their disinterest in the sequel, especially now that Ramis is gone.

Apparently Ramis, Bill Murray and Dan Akroyd, the original stars in the first two films, were set to appear in the third film merely to pass the baton on to a trio of newcomers. A Sony source insists that Ramis' role in the project was minimal, saying that Ramis "was always great to bounce something off of, and that certainly will be missed," but that the actor's death "won't affect the script."

Ghostbusters 3 has languished for years without significant progress, but sources say the film is currently in active development.
