LOS ANGELES, Feb. 25 (UPI) -- The first teaser trailer for FX's upcoming Fargo adaptation doesn't tell us much, but it does look as frigid and as melancholy as the film that inspired it.

Only Billy Bob Thornton, who plays drifter Lorne Malvo, appears in the clip, scraping the snow off his windshield with the 1996 film's characteristic despair.

The Fargo TV series won't be a complete copy of the Coen brothers' original screenplay, though it will be inspired by its plot and tone. Joel and Ethan Coen are exec producing the show, with Martin Freeman on board as a William H. Macy-style character named Lester Nygaard. Fargo also stars Kate Walsh, Bob Odenkirk, Oliver Platt, Colin Hanks and Allison Tolman.

Fargo premieres April 15.
