VALENCIA, Venezuela, Feb. 21 (UPI) -- Venezuelan beauty queen Genesis Carmona was shot to death during a protest march in Valencia, police said. She was 22.

UsMagazine.com said Carmona was crowned Miss Tourism for her home state of Carabobo in 2013.

At least six people have been killed during political unrest in the country in the last few weeks, the report said.

Protests have become increasingly violent since opposition leader Leopoldo Lopez was imprisoned after weeks of protests against President Nicolas Maduro.

Venezuelan prosecutors have dropped the most serious charges against Lopez -- murder and terrorism -- but he remains charged with arson and conspiracy, his attorney told CNN.
