Banksy sells works for $60 apiece in New York

NEW YORK, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- British graffiti artist Banksy says he sold original, signed pieces of black and white spray art in New York's Central Park for $60 apiece during the weekend.

"Yesterday I set up a stall in the park selling 100 percent authentic original signed Banksy canvases. For $60 each," he wrote on his website Sunday, noting it took about four hours before a single piece was sold and the entire day's sales only totaled $420.

"A lady buys two small canvases for her children, but only after negotiating a 50 percent discount," the artist said in a video on his website.

The New York Daily News said Banksy's works generally sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars, but most people who saw his work in the Manhattan stall likely kept walking because they didn't believe the pieces were authentic.
