NEW YORK, Oct. 4 (UPI) -- The producers of "Peter and the Starcatcher" say the "Peter Pan" prequel is to play its final performance off-Broadway Jan. 12.

The drama will wrap up its run after almost two years, five Tony Awards, and a total of 645 performances.

Written by Rick Elice and directed by Roger Rees and Alex Timbers, "Peter and the Starcatcher" opened on Broadway April 15, 2012 and ran until Jan. 20, 2013, before beginning performances at New World Stages March 18, 2013.

"'Peter and the Starcatcher' has been such an incredible journey for all involved," lead producers Nancy Nagel Gibbs, Greg Schaffert, Eva Price and Tom Smedes said in a statement Thursday. "We're so proud that we were able to preserve -- both off-Broadway and on tour -- the magic and imagination that made us fall in love with this show, and that the audiences and critics loved so much on Broadway. And in the current Broadway landscape, a nearly 2-year run of a new American play is rare, so we're grateful to the show's many fans for embracing us like they have."

"Peter and the Starcatcher" recently embarked on its first national tour and will play cities such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, Houston, Washington and Chicago.
