Catton, Crace and Toibin shortlisted for Booker Prize

LONDON, Sept. 10 (UPI) -- Eleanor Catton, Jim Crace and Colm Toibin are among the scribes whose works have been shortlisted for Britain's 2013 Man Booker Prize.

Catton penned "The Luminaries," Crace wrote "Harvest" and Toibin authored "The Testament of Mary."

Also making it into the finals for the prestigious literary award for fiction are Ruth Ozeki's "A Tale For the Time Being," Jhumpha Lahiri's "The Lowland" and NoViolet Bulawayo's "We Need New Names."

Robert Macfarlane, chair of the judges for the award, said the shortlist was "instantly striking" because of its "global range."

The winner is to be announced Oct. 15 at an awards ceremony at London's Guildhall. The six shortlisted writers are each awarded $4,000, while the winner will receive an additional $79,000.
