MALIBU, Calif., Sept. 7 (UPI) -- Actor Mel Gibson clashed with Malibu, Calif., police officers Aug. 31 after he was pulled over at a DUI checkpoint, law enforcement officials said.

Police stopped Gibson and a female passenger whose name was not reported at 1 a.m. PDT at a checkpoint on the Pacific Coast Highway -- the place where the Oscar-winning actor-director infamously went into a drunken tirade against Jews in 2006, TMZ reported Friday.

A deputy asked Gibson if he had been drinking and he said no, the New York Daily News reported. The officer asked Gibson to produce his drivers license, which he didn't have.

The officer then asked Gibson to pull over to a secondary screening spot, whereupon the actor got angry and began yelling, TMZ reported.

"Why are you harassing me?" Gibson yelled.

When the officer asked Gibson why he was yelling, he responded, "I have had problems with you Lost Hills [Malibu] deputies in the past."

The deputy let Gibson go with a warning, the Daily News said.
