J.D. Salinger books set for publication, documentary says

NEW YORK, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- A forthcoming documentary and related book say author J.D. Salinger instructed his estate before he died in 2010 to publish at least five additional books.

The New York Times said "Salinger," a soon-to-be-released film and book tell about the request from the reclusive "Catcher in the Rye" writer, who stopped publishing his work decades ago.

The new volumes could be released as early as 2015, the Times quoted the documentary as saying.

Among the books is "The Family Glass," which would add five new stories to a collection of previously published tales about members of the fictional Glass family, who appear in Salinger's "Franny and Zooey," the newspaper said.

"Salinger," directed by Shane Salerno, is set for release Sept. 6.

The Times said J.D. Salinger's son and wife declined to discuss plans for future publication of the author's work, or Salerno's book and film about his life.
