BET names Kendrick Lamar Best New Artist

LOS ANGELES, July 1 (UPI) -- Kendrick Lamar came away with the best New Artist and Male Hip Hop Artist honors Sunday night at the 2013 BET Awards in Los Angeles.

Rapper Drake, who had the most nominations going into the evening's ceremony at Nokia Theatre with 12, won just three -- Video of the Year and Viewers' Choice for "Started From the Bottom" and Best Collaboration for A$AP Rocky's "[Expletive] Problems," which also featured Lamar and 2 Chainz, The Hollywood Reporter said.

Rihanna won the Female R&B/Pop Artist award, while Miguel took won the Male R&B/Pop Artist trophy, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis won for best group.

Other winners included Gabrielle Douglas (Young Stars Award), Nicki Minaj (Best Female Hip Hop Artist), Jamie Foxx (Best Actor) and Kerry Washington (Best Actress).
